Seamless product placement

In 2016, Saturday Night Live announces that commercials would be reduced by thirty percent. At first it seems as though this is a positive thing. Then a question of how they could tolerate the loss of money is presented. Saturday Night Live instead partnered with advertisers on order to sneakily incorporate advertisements into segments. To the viewer, it would barely seem noticeable, as they stated that the ads wouldn’t interfere with their typical format, and would only occur six times per year. Swapping out long ads with short occasional segments seems very appealing to an audience, and is an effective way to engage the audience with the advertisement. It is a great example of “seamless product placement”. The subtleness of an advertisement is highly important when incorporating ads into television programs.

  1. I think that this is a bad thing. At least during commercials you know that they are manipulating you. With product placement, the advertising is hidden, but still affects you.
